Montsoreau: a friendly village in the heart of the Saumur region
Welcome to Montsoreau, one of the prettiest Loire Valley sites, not only is it"a Small town of character" but it's also labelled "one of the most beautiful villages in France".
Indeed Montsoreau is located on an exceptional site, overlooking the river Loire, in the earth of the Regional Nature Park; it's also a nice stop on the "Loire à Vélo" trail.
You will be charmed by its narrow streets lined with old houses decked out with flower boxes, the typical "place des diligences". You'll be able to enjoy breathtaking sights: orchards, vineyards, the famous cave-dwelling sites, known as 'troglodytes", old quarry galleries now being used to grow mushrooms.
This pretty little village developed thanks to the famous "Tuffeau." stone, a white limestone which was used to build castles and houses.
You will discover its rich heritage: a semi-feudal fortress, a 12 th century church as well as old houses dating back to the 16 th and 17 th century. This is why the region is registered in the "Unesco World Heritage"
